Review of Siege and Storm

 What It's About

After a being captured by the Darkling in Shadow and Bone, Alina and Mal are taken on a boat, captained by a witty man named Sturmhund. The Darkling promises to make Mal watch as he tortures Alina, unless he can use his exceptional tracking skills to find a creature of myth and lore, the Sea Whip. The Darkling despises Sturmhund for his lack of seriousness, but desperately requires his services as a captain in order to find the Sea Whip. The Sea Whip will provide Alina even greater power than before, enabling the Darkling to take control of her abilities and use them to destroy Ravka unless it bows to him.

What I Liked

I liked the character Sturmhund, as he is a very quick witted man who can smile at the vilest of insults, even from his mother and father. He also has a very mysterious past, which casts a dark cloud over his character.

I also very much like the romance that grows between Alina and Mal; it's the perfect amount of sweet and sappy; not too much and not too little. In my opinion, the Darkling and Alina would have made a much better couple- how dramatic would that be? Light and darkness, day and night, sun and moon...

Alina also grows tremendously maturity wise, and with her powers. She unlocks aspects of her powers she never thought she could (nor did I). Overall, Alina blooms under the protection and love of Mal!

What I Disliked

I pretty much liked everything about this book, and I have no complaints.

Conclusion

Siege and Storm is a great second book in the Shadow and Bone series, and a great addition to the story of Ravka!
