Review of Anne of Green Gables

Author: Lucy Maud Montgomery
Personal Rating: 8+

What It's About

Anne of Green Gables is a fun, light story about a girl named Anne Shirley. Anne is an orphan who has been in many, many foster care systems and orphanages. But when an old man and his sister decide to get a boy to help clean the house, Anne's life changes for the better. After a misunderstanding at the orphanage, Anne is sent to the train station to wait for her new family to come. But when the old man, Mathew, comes to pick up his new cleaning boy, he finds a peculiar, imaginative, red-headed girl named Anne. Mathew is kind at heart, and decides to take Anne home, neglecting to tell her that he and his sister do not want her.

But Anne is a funny girl, and her new gaurdians, Mathew and Marilla, take a liking to her after only a few days. Anne makes many friends, grows up so quickly, and becomes brilliant! Despite their differences, Marilla teaches Anne how to be proper, and Mathew teaches her to be kind and gentle. Anne's best friend, Diana, is a perfect companion for her; her imagination is more tame, though her spirits fly high as Anne's. The book follows Anne as she makes friends, makes enemies, and makes life an experience never to be forgotten for all those around her.

What I Liked

I loved this book so, so, so much! I usually prefer fantasy books (just look at my previous posts), but this book is one of my favorites! Between the time period it is set in, and Anne's wild imagination, there's nothing to dislike about this book! I loved it all!

What I Disliked

If only I could tell you the tragedy... but alas, I can't! There was one singular part I didn't like, but I won't spoil anyting!

Conclusion

Anne of Green Gables is one of the lightest, funniest, most entertaining books I've ever read! The creativity and joy throughout the book lifts your spirit and keeps you reading; if you haven't already, you need to read this book!
