What It's About

The Masterpiece is a Christian novel about a man named Roman and a woman named Grace. Grace, having recently filed a divorce, is left alone with her baby son, Samuel. Grace struggles to find a job; her former husband drained her savings account when he left her for another woman, and her previous job's company was sold to another, larger one. She has the help of one of her dear friends to help her with Samuel, as well as a place to sleep in their house. But behind the genorousity her friend shows, she really just wants to prove that she is a better mother for Samuel than Grace is.

Grace soon finds a job as a personal assistant for an artist named Roman. Roman is a rich man, who has a huge house, lives the American dream, and feels empty nonetheless. He searches for a sense of happiness in women, drugs, alchohol, and being alone, yet nothing can fill the empty space he feels. But when Grace shows up at his front door for her first day, he immediately knows that she will be the one to bring him the joy he is looking for.

What I Liked

The Masterpiece is a great Christian romance book because there was no sexual content, but there was plenty of romance. The storyline was great, as well. I think that Francine Rivers is a very talented author; she managed to make a Christian romance book without it being cheesy or boring in the slightest. There was plenty of suspence and drama, as well as good morals and a perfect ending. This is honestly the best romance book I have ever read, in both the Christian and Non-Christian genres.

What I Disliked

There were a few sad parts, such as the suicide mentioned above, as well as the death of the woman who was beaten to death. The rest of the book, though, had a fairly happy theme.

Conclusion

The Masterpiece is an amazing piece of Christian literature; with a perfect amount of romance, sadness, and redemption, this will always stay one of my favorite works.
